Information from the Diocesan Warden of Readers
The Archbishop’s Regulations govern the exercise of Reader ministry in the Diocese.
Changes in the patterns of Reader ministry and in the provision of training, as well as in other aspects of the Church’s life, mean that a new version of the Regulations has now become necessary.
They may be downloaded as Word documents from the links in the grey box at the foot of this page, together with a note on Reader disciplinary matters and procedure.
Among the new or revised points in the Regulations, may I please draw attention to the following:
Section A: The Duties of Readers
3 c, e: The participation of Readers in services of marriage and of baptism
3 d: Concerning Public Worship with Communion by Extension
Section D: Admission and Licensing
3: Deployment, and the procedure to be followed when a new Reader is licensed to a ministry other than in the parish from which he or she came
5: Permission to Officiate at the age of 70
10: Becoming Reader Emeritus on retirement from regular public ministry
Section E: Conditions of Service
6: Ministerial standards, including CRB
7: Disciplinary matters (See also enclosed note)
Section F: Finance
1, 3: Readers exercise a volunteer ministry
If you are serving in a parish, I would be grateful if you could please make your incumbent aware of this new edition of the Regulations.
I hope that you will find the Regulations to be a framework for a rewarding and imaginative ministry. This comes as always with my sincere thanks for everything you do.
