A discussion paper from the Bishop of Selby
We all recognise that we are at a crucial moment in our church life when it comes to the way that Christian ministry is delivered. Every Parish and Chaplaincy is having to face up to the fact of the declining number of clergy available and the implications this has for the work load and role of those of us who are ordained. Linked with this, however, is also the awareness that in recent years there has been a huge rise in lay ministry and this is also reshaping the nature of local church life.
The document you can download from the link in the box at the foot of this page has been circulated to all PCC Secretaries and the Archbishop is asking for a congregational response by the end of May 2008.
I hope the contents of the document provoke some real discussion about what could be the way forward for local ministry as the Diocese tries to offer resources in these changing times.
Thank you for your graciousness in reading thus far and for your part in this process.
