The Church of England's Youth Evangelism Fund affirms Projects and Proposals that share the Good News of Jesus Christ in ways that make sense to young people.
Eight dioceses are to receive immediate grants from the newly-established Fund. York is amongst these, and will be allocated around £30,000 to be applied for this year.
The aim is that young people between the ages of 11- 20 will apply for grants. Simple forms of applications are prepared. Local leaders will act as sponsors to the young people. The Mission and Public affairs Division makes payments to successful applications.
Timetable
May and June: Publicity throughout Diocese. Please seek to place the information in the hands of young people and those who lead in your Deanery, area, parish, benefice, church, or chaplaincy. Applications will be invited to use the standard form provided.
July - August: Project applications sent to Archdeaconry Youth Adviser or Mission Officer.
September: Youth advisers and Mission Officer meet to sort through applications
October: Applications are sent in by 16th of month to C of E National Mission Officer
November: YEF award decisions are made by the National Committee
December: All grants are paid to applicants directly, not to Diocese.
Any money unspent is returned to central funding to be re-allocated elsewhere.
This is a tight schedule for a newly-launched grant making body. The aim of the programme is one which has high priority in the Mission Action Plans of many churches across the Diocese, namely,
‘To enable more young people to connect with the Christian Gospel and to develop their faith within the life of the Church’.
