The East End

In typical English style, the east end of the Minster is square-ended, not semi-circular as favoured on the continent.

The East End, York MinsterBuilt in the Perpendicular Gothic style, it was begun in 1361 under Archbishop John Thoresby (1352-73) and completed 111 years later in 1472.

This area is dominated by the beautiful great east window which rises high above the lady chapel. The lady chapel itself is used for services attended by only 40-50 people.

The east end also contains St Stephens Chapel and All Saints Chapel, the chapel of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment.
