Historic York - A Guided Tour Through A Beautiful City St Leonards Street Picture Of St Leonards Place


We head north west up Blake Street and soon arrive at a crossroads.

View of York Minster along Duncombe Place from the junction with St Leonards Place Look right up Duncombe Place for a famous view of York Minster.

Crossing at the traffic lights we enter St Leonards Place.

Nearly 300 feet of medieval wall between Bootham Bar and the edge of the Museum Gardens were demolished during the construction of this wide and attractive road by the City Corporation in 1839.

As you pass, Picture of carved head of Queen Elizabeth I outside the Theatre Royal notice the carved heads of Hamlet, Elizabeth I, Lady Macbeth, Falstaff and Titania beneath William Shakespeare.

Just a little further down the street we find ourselves in Exhibition Square with King's Manor to our left and the City Art Gallery opposite.
