Historic York - A Guided Tour Through A Beautiful City York Minster Picture Of York Minster

Picture of Monk Bar Continuing along the city walls we come to Monk Bar and descend the steps. Monk Bar is the largest and and strongest of the gateways to the city and contains vaulted chambers, formerly the Freeman's Prison.

A few yards ahead we take a right turn into Ogleforth. About halfway up the street you will notice a row of 11 almshouses to your right behind heavy iron gates.

Picture of York Minster (East End) Walking on, we turn left along Chapter House Street and come to the magnificent east end of York Minster.

Luckily, you have arrived just in time for a short tour of the Minster. Why not take a few minutes out from the main tour to explore this masterpiece of religious architecture? Alternatively, visit the Official York Minster Web site.

We walk away from the Minster along College Street, and pass the entrance to St Williams College about halfway down the street, moving on towards the medieval heart of York.
